AB: Congratulations and thank you for all you do, Machine Gun Kelley! We just finished our 2017 competitive season, can you share one of your personal highlights?
MGK: Personal highlight for this season is that I actually jammed in games, I mean I do it at practices but never in games and I did it twice this year. Also, an addition to my highlights was you teaching me about shower beers and how amazingly refreshing they are.
AB: What does "team" mean to you?
MGK: TOGETHER, HARD WORK, FAMILY
AB: As we shift to recruitment time in our league, what is one thing you would tell someone who's interested in joining roller derby?
MGK: Just do it you won't be disappointed, it's the best decision I ever made for myself.
If derby has even entered your mind and you thought it might be something you're interested in than please come and check it out.
AB: As the (amazing!) president of Bootleg City, you must have a lot of responsibilities. How do you juggle work, family, and derby life?
MGK: I have no idea. I just try to do my best and keep notes/tasks/lists on my phone and reminder alarms to make phone calls and what not. None of it would happen without the awesome supportive people like yourself in this league that take on responsibilities to make things happen, keep everything organized and the engine running of Bootleg City Roller Derby. I am forever grateful and appreciate you all.
AB: What are you looking forward to in our "pre-season"?
MGK: I'm looking forward to meeting the new skaters in both the junior and adult programs and help foster their love (and possibly their new addiction) for derby, and planning of the upcoming season.
AB: You joined roller derby in 2011. What motivates and inspires you to keep coming back?
MGK: The people and the game. I have moments when I'm tired and played out but than its game day and it all comes alive and I LOVE it, it's so fun and exhilarating.
AB: What are your game day rituals?
MGK: Hmmm I'm not sure that I have any rituals but I have must have foods like my chocolate covered almonds, bananas and my coffee and bagel in the morning.
AB: if you could have any super power, what would it be?
MGK: I can't decide between cloning and teleportation. Cloning myself so I can get multiple things done at once and teleportation so I can get to places really fast, especially derby games. No more long drives 💜
