AB: As we just closed our season, is there any highlight that you hold close to your heart?
MS: Rumble will always hold so much for the maidens this season, we surprised so many and it was simply amazing to be a part of! Shaving the rats and sharing all of the victories. And every post-bout beer shotgun. Always!
Bangor was also special to me, we travelled so far and played in the U.S! Another big first for the team.
AB: You are our league's Training Director and really took on the responsibility of running team and league practices this whole season. Can you share some thoughts & insight on this major role?
MS: I had major support in key areas, which made it all possible. Having committee members contributing (attendance, skills testing, juniors, etc) so focus could go to practices, and involved coaches like Blazed and CupQuake to help with the practice plan delivery. A lot of practice ideas come from other leagues, or watching the game itself.
AB: Has your role as a board member, team captain, and coach left your energy reserves depleted?
MS: by the end of the season, absolutely. Having worked a busy summer job on top of it all, it's a real push to the end haha. More so mentally than physically. I took some time after our final event and rested, and am now slowly getting into the pre-season work and cross-training.
AB: During our off.. Pre-Season, you have taken on training our junior derby skaters again with PSYCHOchondriac. What do you enjoy most about the juniors?
MS: They are fearless. And they catch on so quick! I think of what great skaters they can become with such an early start.
AB: What are your pre-season plans?
MS: Gains. Haha, eating well and getting back into the regular gym and lifting routine. I plan for more agility type work too!
AB: You are one of the most driven people many of us know; where do you find the energy and inspiration to give'r so hard?
MS: That means so much! I always want to improve, maybe that's it. I've always got coach spRAWkit to look up to and chase at the gym haha. The energy is mostly from when I eat right, haha. And basically, no excuses.
AB: What team would you love to play?
MS: There's WAY too many! 709! Or any from Montreal, rock coast! .. I would probably just freeze and drop if I was ever on the track with any of the top teams haha.
AB: You have played with the Moonshine Maidens for 3 (right?) seasons now. What evolutions have you seen happen to the team?
MS: Yes! 3 seasons already! I've watched the team grow into a more serious, competitive team of talented athletes. Each season there's so much growth! It's so amazing!
AB: If you could have any super power, what would you choose and why?
MS: hahaha.. teleportation! Think of all the derby I could do and see!!
**Just a note on the name change. I've been thinking about making a change to the DG/DDotM titles for a while now as I feel it's become obsolete and was searching for a much more fitting and modern title. Well, DUH! It was under my nose the whole time as we already refer to our members are bootleggers. Better late than never and glad my awesome pal, teammate, and co-captain could grab up this stellar new title first! - Annie
